Upgrading the gas network in Whitchurch Lane, Bristol
Wales & West Utilities is working to upgrade gas pipes in the Whitchurch Lane area of Bristol.
The scheme is vital to ensuring that gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area, helping to keep people warm for decades to come. The gas emergency and pipeline service started the work on 1 September and has worked with Bristol City Council to plan the project.
As part of the next stage of the project, it has been agreed that Whitchurch Lane will be closed from the junction of Longway Avenue to the entrance of The Bottle Yard Studios overnight from 6pm on 29 October to 6am on 30 October.
Wales & West Utilities Simon Lee is managing this work and said:
“We are making good progress and continue to work with the Council to plan these essential works.
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
Wales & West Utilities is the gas emergency and pipeline service, delivering energy to over 7.5 million people across Wales and the south west of England. We don’t sell gas; we transport it through an extensive underground network of more than 35,000 kilometres of pipes.
