Wales & West Utilities Operational Manager for Rhiwbina, Dane Whittaker said:

"We are working in the Rhiwbina area of Cardiff to upgrade the gas network. This £2.8m investment is essential to keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

"In agreement with Cardiff Council and to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we work, the northbound lane along Pantbach Road is closed at its junction with Beulah Road and Ty Wern Road.

"Our latest phase of work began on 22 July 2019 and was due to finish by the end of September 2019, with Pantbach Road reopening by 1 September.

"Unfortunately, due to engineering difficulties, this has now been delayed. This phase of work will now finish on 18 October, with Pantbach Road reopening by 16 September.

"Once Pantbach Road reopens, we will also then need to close the eastbound lane along Tyn-Y-Parc Road, between Manor Way and Ty Wern Road. This work is expected to begin on 16 September. Diversion routes for both road closures will be clearly signposted and we would urge all road users to follow the marked diversion route and abide by traffic law at all times.

"Our team will be working as safely and as quickly as possible and we really appreciate the patience of local people while we carry out this essential work.

"We know working on roads like these is not ideal, but this work really is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future and can play its part in delivering reliable and affordable green energy.
