Gas emergency and pipeline service, Wales & West Utilities is reporting good progress with its essential gas pipe upgrade scheme in the Kingskerswell area of Newton Abbot.
The £260,000 work, which is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area so that people are safe and warm for generations to come, began at the end of September, and the next phase involves work in the Torquay Road area of the town.
As part of the work, it has been agreed with Devon County Council that rolling two-way traffic lights will be in operation along Torquay Road from 20 November – 13 December. Work will also be ongoing in surrounding roads including Southey Lane, Mount Pleasant Road, Mount Pleasant Close and Manor Gardens.
These traffic lights are in place to keep the local community, road users and Wales & West Utilities colleagues safe.
We know that working on roads like these is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Newton Abbot.
