Essential gas pipe upgrade work to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses in the Locking area of north Somerset has come to an end with a thank you from residents.
Wales & West Utilities, which started the gas pipe upgrade work in the village in December last year, has, this week, completed its work which has seen 3.5 kilometres of old metal gas pipe upgraded to new plastic ones.
Residents praised the company for the considerate manner in which the work was carried out.
Resident Louise Clarke, who has lived in the village for 32 years, said:
“The team have done a fantastic job in upgrading the gas network and work has been carried out in a respectful manner
“As a resident of a small village, like Locking, I know how disruptive work of this kind can be, but I also know how essential it is to ensure that we have a reliable supply of gas for decades to come. On behalf of everyone here I’d like to say thanks for completing the work efficiently – and on time.”
Wales & West Utilities Barry Sale managed the work and said:
“We’re delighted to have finished this £765,000 upgrade and want to thank everyone who lives and works in Locking for bearing with us while we did this essential work.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Locking and the surrounding areas. “This work will not only keep the gas flowing safely and reliably today, it will also help make sure the gas network is fit for the future and can play its part in delivering reliable and affordable green energy.”
