Wales & West Utilities is to start a £813,000 gas pipe upgrade scheme in Yeovil in the New Year.

The work, which starts in the Thorne Lane area of the town, begins on 4 January and is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area so that people are safe and warm for generations to come. It involves upgrading over 2.7 kilometres of gas pipes in the area and will be complete by the end of May.

To plan the work and make sure disruption is kept to a minimum Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Somerset County Council. To keep engineers and the local community safe during the work, traffic management will be in place throughout the scheme and this will be clearly signposted.

We know that working on roads like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll be working as safely and as quickly as possible to make sure the work is completed in a timely fashion, while keeping inconvenience to a minimum for local people and road users.

Our engineers are following all hygiene and social distancing guidelines and we would respectfully ask that you keep a 2m distance if passing our work site.

To power a green recovery from coronavirus, we’ll be working hard to keep the gas flowing safely today and to prepare the gas network to transport green gases, like biomethane and hydrogen, so it can play its part delivering green, sustainable energy in the future.
