Wales & West Utilities is to start a ten-week gas pipe upgrade scheme in Wells next week (11 January).
The work, in the Glastonbury Road area of Wells, is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area so that people are safe and warm for generations to come. Barring any engineering difficulties, the work is due to complete by 26 March.
To plan the work and make sure disruption is kept to a minimum Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Somerset County Council. It has been agreed that traffic management will be in place and this will include:
- A road closure on Priory Road, from the junction of Strawberry Way Roundabout to outside no.2 Turner Court. This section of the road will be closed throughout the scheme and a diversion route will be clearly signposted
- Three-way traffic lights on the roundabout of Strawberry Way, East Somerset Way and Glastonbury Road. These will be in place from 11 January – 19 February
- Two-way traffic lights on Glastonbury Road which will be in place from 19 February – 26 March
We know that working on roads like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll be working as safely and as quickly as possible to make sure the work is completed in a timely fashion, while keeping inconvenience to a minimum for local people and road users.
Our engineers are following all hygiene and social distancing guidelines and we would respectfully ask that you keep a 2m distance if passing our work site.
