Andy Jones, Wales & West Utilities Operational Manager said:

"We are continuing our work on the A38 Devon Expressway in Ivybridge to repair a leak on a gas pipe running beneath the road.

“This is a complex job and we do not yet know how long our work will take. Our engineers worked through the night and will continue to work into this evening to repair the leak as safely and as quickly as possible.

"In agreement with Highways England and to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we work, we have closed a lane on both the eastbound and westbound lanes in the Lee Mill area.

“As this essential work is likely to cause some disruption, we would advise road users to plan ahead and use alternative routes if possible.

“We appreciate that working on roads like this one is not ideal, but it is important that we fix this leak now, so we continue to provide a safe and reliable supply of gas to local homes and businesses.

"If anyone smells gas, thinks they have a gas leak, or suspects carbon monoxide poisoning, they should call us on 0800 111 999 and our engineers will be there to help, day or night."
