Wales & West Utilities is inviting people living in Falmouth to a local event to find out more about the work it is starting in September.
The company, which will be upgrading over 1 kilometre of gas pipes in Melvill Road and Gyllyngvase Road, is inviting people to a drop-in information event on 12 September between 12 - 7pm at Merchants Manor, 1 Western Terrace, Falmouth, TR11 4QJ. The event will give people the opportunity to learn more about the plans and colleagues from Wales & West Utilities will also be on hand to answer any questions.
The £94,000 investment work, which starts on 30 September, is essential to make sure the gas is kept flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area and so families are safe and warm for generations to come. Barring any engineering difficulties, it is expected to be complete by 20 December.
Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Cornwall Council and Highways England to carefully plan this work to minimise disruption and all businesses in the area will be open as usual throughout. It has been agreed that to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe, rolling traffic lights will be in operation throughout the work.
Wales & West Utilities Roxanne Whittaker is project managing the work and said:
“Most of the gas network is underground and out of sight but it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Falmouth and the surrounding areas. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“We know that working on roads like these is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“We’re looking forward to speaking to local people, letting them know what we have planned and how we’ll be working hard to keep disruption to a minimum.”
Wales & West Utilities has a team of more than 1000 trained and experienced engineers to help serve the 7.5m people across Wales and the south west of England that rely on its gas emergency and pipeline services. Our team is also working on a multi-million pound, 30-year gas pipe investment programme which began in 2002. Old metal pipes within 30 metres of buildings are being replaced with new long-lasting pipes with a lifespan of more than 80 years, to make sure homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply now and in the future.
