Wales & West Utilities is to start emergency work in the Broad Street area of Barry.
The work, which starts today (Wednesday 12 December), is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses over the Christmas period.
The company will be working in the area until Friday 21 December on the junction of Broad Street and Canon Street. It has been agreed with Vale of Glamorgan Council that traffic lights will be in place and these will be manually operated during peak hours to help traffic flows.
Wales & West Utilities Project Manager, Nigel Hodgson, explains:
“We know that working on roads like these is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area. We’ll be working round the clock and through the weekend to finish this work as safely and as quickly as possible, while keeping disruption to the local community and road users to a minimum.”
