Wales & West Utilities is to begin £200,000 gas pipe upgrade work in the King Edward VII Avenue area of Cardiff.
Starting on 4 September, the work is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area so that people are kept safe and warm for generations to come.
Ahead of the work starting the gas pipeline and emergency service has been working with Cardiff Council to keep disruption to a minimum. Work will be suspended during major city centre events, including the Cardiff Half Marathon and Remembrance Sunday. The work will take 14 weeks to complete and will involve upgrading 1km of old metal gas pipes to new plastic ones.
Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller for the area, Francis Kirk, is managing the work and said:
“We know that working in the heart of busy cities is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible.
“We’ve worked closely with Cardiff Council to plan the work and we’ll be working hard to keep disruption to events in the city to a minimum.”
