Wales & West Utilities is to begin a £1.3 million scheme to upgrade the gas network in Dinas Powys and is inviting local people to hear more about the plans.

Ahead of the work to upgrade more than 8km of old metal gas pipes to new plastic ones over a two-year period, the company is inviting local people to a drop-in session on Wednesday 9 January between 1pm and 7pm at Dinas Powys Tennis Club, St Andrew’s Road, Dinas Powys CF64 4HB.

The work, which will be carried out in two phases, is set to begin on 2 January 2019 and will be complete during the Spring. It will start in Perclose before moving to Station Road, where it has been agreed that a rolling road closure will be in place. The second phase of work is expected to take place in January 2020.

Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller, Francis Kirk, is managing the work and said:

“We’re urging anyone who wants to find out about the work and the traffic management plans to come along to our drop-in session on the 9 January. Our team will be on hand to answer any queries people may have.

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.

“We’re very aware of the effect that our work can have on communities and commuters. We’ve worked closely with Vale of Glamorgan Council to plan this work and we’ll be working as safely and as quickly as possible to keep disruption to a minimum.”
