Wales & West Utilities is working to upgrade the gas pipes in the North Hill area of Plymouth.
The work, which starts on the 20 May, is essential to keep the gas flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses, keeping people safe and warm for generations to come. Barring any engineering difficulties it will finish at the beginning of July.
As part of the work the gas emergency and pipeline service has liaised with Plymouth City Council, and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place. This includes:
- A road closure on Chester Place from the junction of North Hill to 11 Chester Place (20 May - 10 June)
- A road closure on Alton Place from the junction of North Hill to Alton Terrace Lane (20 May - 10 June)
- A road closure on Cobble Mews from the junction of North Hill to the rear of 29 Hill Park Crescent (3 June - 1 July)
Wales & West Utilities Abby Smith is managing this work and said:
We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the Plymouth area.
