Treuddyn gets gas connections

More than 80 families in Treuddyn in Flintshire are set to benefit from connection to the mains gas network for the very first time, which is set to save them hundreds of pounds on their household bills each year.

After signing up to the Wales & West Utilities Warm Home Assistance Scheme, the 82 properties in the village will be connected to the network by the end of the year – ensuring they start to see the benefits during the winter months.

Wales & West Utilities has been working with Flintshire County Council, which owns and manages many properties within the area, to inform householders of the benefits in connecting to the network, as well as the financial assistance available through the Warm Home Assistance Scheme.

The scheme, which has been running since 2009 can provide financial assistance of up to £2,778 towards the cost of a new gas connection, to homes that qualify. Converting to mains gas will reduce a typical energy bill by hundreds of pounds a year– something Treuddyn residents are hugely excited about.

In planning the scheme Wales & West Utilities has been working with residents to inform them of the required work and held a community drop-in session, giving householders the opportunity to meet the project team and talk about any queries in relation to the work.

The work started on Wednesday 1July and will be complete by the end of the year. It will involve a significant extension of the existing gas network  from Leeswood to Treuddyn.

Nigel Winnan, Wales & West Utilities Connections Manager, said: “We are delighted that by working with Flintshire County Council this scheme will connect many households to the mains gas network.

“We are delighted that we have been able to provide financial assistance through our Warm Home Assistance Scheme and families will reap the benefits of reduced bills through connection to the mains gas network.

“To date, our Warm Home Assistance Scheme has funded more than 10,000 new gas connections across Wales and the south west of England in the last five years with some people also receiving further funding towards a central heating system and home insulation.”

Wales & West Utilities is urging other people not connected to the mains gas network within the area to make contact to check if they are eligible for financial assistance through the Warm Home Assistance Scheme.
