Gower AM, Rebecca Evans, visited Wales & West Utilities Llandarcy depot to hear about the company’s commitment to supporting those most in need while keeping the gas flowing so communities across Wales and south west England are safe and warm.
Ms Evans met with Wales & West Utilities colleagues and was given a tour of the base, also learning about the work the company is doing to prepare for the future, meeting Net Zero and delivering affordable, reliable and green energy to its customers.
Wales & West Utilities Llandarcy depot employs 115 people - all of whom work to look after the pipes that keep the gas flowing across the area, responding to gas emergencies, connecting new homes and businesses and upgrading the gas network so it’s fit to deliver green energy long into the future.
It was a pleasure showing Ms Evans round our base at Llandarcy and to have the opportunity to talk about how we support those most in need in our communities.
We're committed to making sure that the future energy system is reliable and green, whilst also keeping disruption to customers to a minimum and energy bills low. Our pledge to deliver a Net Zero ready gas network by 2035 will support decarbonisation of heat, power and transport.
Wales & West Utilities colleagues also briefed Ms Evans on the important work that is taking place as the company works towards fully decarbonising heat by 2050.
It is important that people know about the help and support that is available to them. Schemes such as the Priority Service Register offer assistance and support to households who may need extra help, and I would urge anyone who thinks this service may be of use to them to register for free.
I would also like to take this opportunity to say a big “thank you” to the Wales & West Utilities workers who are out even in the worst weather ensuring that we have the energy supplies that we need.
The Priority Service Register (PSR) helps us and other utilities to make sure we really look after those who need it most. You can join it if you live in a household that has:
- someone who is of pensionable age
- someone under the age of 5 living with them
- someone who is living with a chronic medical condition or is disabled
- any other specific needs such as sight or hearing impairments
