Wales & West Utilities is carrying out work to upgrade the gas pipes in the Tavistock Road area of Plymouth.

The work is essential to ensure the gas is kept flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses, keeping people safe and warm for generations to come. In planning the work Wales & West Utilities has liaised with Plymouth City Council and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place between 29 July – 2 August. This includes:

  • A road closure on Tavistock Road, from the junction of Plymbridge Lane to the Mercedes Benz garage. This will be in place on the southbound carriageway only.
    • Access will be maintained to Plymbridge Lane, the Jack Rabbit pub, the Mercedes Benz garage and Travelodge.
    • A diversion route will be in place, and this will be clearly signposted. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.

Wales & West Utilities Abby Smith is managing this work and said:

We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.
