Director of Regulation & Asset Strategy, Sarah Williams welcomed the UK Government's Hydrogen Strategy, which sets out the central role that hydrogen will play in to help the UK decarbonise heat, heavy industry, power and transport.

It’s great to see the UK Government’s Hydrogen Strategy. Converting the existing safe and reliable gas network to run on green gas like hydrogen will help millions of homeowners play their part in getting to Net Zero. We welcome the Government’s consultation on mandating hydrogen ready boilers from 2026, which will help us all go green while avoiding disruption to our homes or upfront costs.

At Wales & West Utilities, we’re focused on a range of projects across Wales and south west England to demonstrate the role that hydrogen can play, and as part of the Gas Goes Green programme, we’re working to create the world’s first zero carbon gas grid. Hydrogen can help industry in south Wales preserve existing jobs and create thousands of new ones by 2050; while in south west England we’ll soon start safely blending hydrogen into the gas network, reducing carbon emissions from hundreds of homes immediately.

We look forward to working with the UK and Welsh Governments to deliver on this ambitious Strategy.
