A Newport lady has donated 24 inches of hair to the Little Princess Trust, whilst also raising more than £700 for the charity.

Stacy Griffiths, 36, had always had shoulder length hair but after seeing how quickly it grew during the pandemic, she decided to go the distance and grow it as long as possible in order to donate to charity.

Stacy, who has worked at Wales & West Utilities for over 18 years, explains:

When my hair grew pretty quickly during lockdown, I set my sight on doing something worthwhile. I decided to donate my hair to Little Princess Trust which does so much to help children and young adults who lose their hair due to illness. I have a 10-year-old niece and know how much losing her hair would affect her confidence and this was my main motivation.

Stacy’s hair grew to reach 39 inches and once cut, she managed to donate 24 inches which will go to making wigs which Little Princess Trust donate free of charge to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions.

Having made the donation Stacy decided she should go one step further and raise money directly for the charity.

Stacy, a Corporate Environment Lead at Wales & West Utilities Newport head office, added:

I found having my hair cut and making the donation pretty emotional as I knew how much this would help young people. It was then and there in the hairdresser’s chair that I decided to set up a JustGiving page.

In just a few days people have donated over £450 and my employer, Wales & West Utilities, has provided a further £300 in match funding. I am totally blown away by the kindness and compassion of my friends and family. It costs £700 to make a wig so with the hair and the money raised I hope to help two children who are going through a tough time.
