Wales & West Utilities is shortly starting its £130,000 investment work to upgrade gas pipes in the Kenwyn Street area of Truro.
The work, which starts on 2 January, is essential to ensure the gas is kept flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses, keeping people safe and warm for generations to come. Barring any engineering difficulties, it will complete during May next year.
Members of the local community were invited to a drop-in session in October where they were able to view plans and direct any questions to members of the project team.
Wales & West Utilities has liaised with Cornwall Council to plan the work, and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place throughout. This currently includes:
- A closure on Kenwyn Street between the junctions of Little Castle Street and City Road (2 – 20 January)
- A closure on Kenwyn Street between the junctions of Little Castle Street and Bosvigo Road, whilst City Road will also be closed between the junctions of Kenwyn Street and Calenick Street (20 January – 20 February)
3 February - 3 March:
- A closure on Little Castle Street between the junctions of Kenwyn Street and River Street
- A closure on Kenwyn Street between the junctions of Victoria Square and Little Castle Street (3 February - 3 March)
Further traffic management will be in place throughout the project and will be communicated in due course.

While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Truro. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.
