Essential gas pipe upgrade work to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses in the Bridgwater area has come to an end two weeks ahead of schedule and in time for the May bank holiday.

Wales & West Utilities, which started the gas pipe upgrade work in the Wylds Road area of the town on 7 May, has today, finished the project which has seen over 220 metres of old metal gas pipe upgraded to new plastic ones.

Wales & West Utilities Barry Sale managed the work and said:

“We have worked closely with Somerset County Council to plan this work and are delighted that our team of gas engineers have pushed hard to complete this £50,000 upgrade two weeks ahead of schedule.

“We’re aware of the effect our gas pipe investment work can have on communities and want to thank everyone who lives, works and travels through Bridgwater for bearing with us while we did this essential work.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Bridgwater and the surrounding areas. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work will not only keep the gas flowing safely and reliably today, it will also help make sure the gas network is fit for the future and can play its part in delivering reliable and affordable green energy.”

Wales & West Utilities, the gas emergency and pipeline service, takes pride in serving the south west of England and Wales. The company also has a multi-million pound, 30-year gas pipe investment programme which began in 2002.
