Wales & West Utilities will begin work to upgrade gas pipes in the Chapel Street area of Redruth next month.
The work starts on 7 October and is essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come. Barring any engineering difficulties, it will complete during December and work will move to West End, Blowinghouse Hill, Church Lane and Hoskings Row in January next year.
Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Cornwall Council to plan the work, and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place as the works progress. This currently includes:
- Rolling road closures on the junctions of Chapel Street, West End, Fore Street and Penryn Street (7 October – 11 November)
- Rolling two-way lights on Chapel Street (11 November – 20 December)
- Four-way traffic lights in place on Foundry Row, Tolgus Hill, Roaches Row and Rose Hill (25 November – 23 December)
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.

We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
