Work to upgrade part of the gas network in South Molton is progressing well.
Wales & West Utilities started work to upgrade over 3,000 metres of gas pipes in the New Road area of the town at the beginning of April and, as part of the next phase of the project, work will commence in the North Street area. The work is essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come.
To plan the work the gas emergency and pipeline service has liaised with Devon County Council, and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place throughout. As part of the next phase of works it has been agreed that:
- North Street will be closed between 29 July – 23 August
- Parsonage Lane will be closed between 12 August – 7 October
Wales & West Utilities will continue to liaise with local businesses to inform them of the plans.
Wales & West Utilities Roxanne Whittaker is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said:
We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across South Molton.
