Wales & West Utilities is returning to Llwynypia Road in Tonypandy to do essential gas pipe upgrade work.

The investment work will make sure that the gas keeps flowing to heat local homes and power local businesses long into the future.

It follows previous work which has been carried out in school holidays to keep inconvenience for road users to a minimum.

As part of the work, the road, from the entrance to McDonalds to Inverleith Terrace, will be closed for two weeks from 3 April. As part of the scheme Wales & West Utilities has worked with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council and diversion routes will be in place and clearly signposted.

Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller for the area, Francis Kirk, is managing the work and said:

“We have worked hard to minimise the impact to local people travelling and have planned all sections of the scheme around the school holidays. Our work in the area is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“Working in areas like this is never easy but we will work as safely and as quickly as possible to make sure that we get the job done with minimal disruption for local people.”

The company also has a multi-million pound, 30-year gas pipe investment programme which began in 2002. Old metal pipes within 30 metres of buildings are being upgraded to new long-lasting plastic pipes with a lifespan of more than 80 years, to make sure homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply now and in the future.
