Wales & West Utilities has started work on the final section of a gas pipe upgrade project in the Park Road area of Faringdon.
The gas emergency and pipeline service started the work today (17 February) and, barring any engineering difficulties, it will complete by the end of March. The work is essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come.
The gas emergency and pipeline service has liaised with Oxfordshire County Council to plan the work, and it has been agreed that the following traffic management will be in place:
- Multi-way traffic lights on Park Road, with a traffic light head on the exit from Tesco car park (18 February – 9 March)
- Multi-way traffic lights on Park Road, at its junction with Eagles and Bromsgrove (10 March – 28 March)
Motorists are advised to allow sufficient travel time.
Wales & West Utilities Mick Gallavin is managing this work and said:
This small section of work will bring our £60,000 investment project in this area to a close.
We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.
