Wales & West Utilities has celebrated International Women’s Day with a donation to a local Exeter charity to support the drive to end period poverty.

The gas emergency and pipeline service handed almost 2,000 period products including packs of tampons, pads, panty liners, and other personal hygiene products, to St Petrock’s which will now, in turn, distribute them to homeless and vulnerable people across the city. The company also provided 50 ‘Keep Warm’ packs, containing hand warmers, thermos flask, hot water bottle, blanket, socks, hat and gloves.

Louise Alfaresi, First Line Manager for Exeter at Wales & West Utilities, explains:

Working in a traditionally male-dominated industry our own Women’s Inclusion Network is committed to gender equality and this includes normalising conversations about menstruation. So, with this year’s International Women’s Day focusing on the theme #AccelerateAction, we decided that this donation would go some way to support the work of St Petrock’s, helping those women most in need.

St Petrock’s is Exeter's charity for people who are homeless or vulnerably housed. It has been working for over 25 years, providing a range of support, housing and prevention services to help fill the gaps in services available to individuals in need.

Wales & West Utilities has previously supported St Petrock’s and is proud to continue the relationship.

Emma Jones, Community Relations Manager at St Petrock’s, is, once again, delighted to have the support of Wales & West Utilities and said:

We are a charity and are reliant on the donations and goodwill of companies and local people.

To have the donation of sanitary products and Keep Warm packs is fantastic as we know just how much these will positively impact the lives of those we work with.

On behalf of everyone at St Petrock’s I’d like to extend our thanks to everyone at Wales & West Utilities for their continued support.

Louise added:

No one should face challenges in accessing period products and we are proud that this donation will go some way to helping the many women St Petrock’s supports.
