Wales & West Utilities has started work to upgrade part of the gas network in the St Athan Road area of Cowbridge.
The work, which started this week (11 April), will keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come. The overall scheme is expected to be complete by 20 May.
The gas emergency and pipeline service has liaised with Vale of Glamorgan Council to plan the work and it has been agreed that road closures will be in place throughout the scheme. This involves:
- St Athan Road, which will be closed to northbound traffic from the junction of Brookfield Road
- Broadway, which will be closed to westbound traffic from the junction of St Athan Road
Local diversion routes and a one way system will be clearly signposted and motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel.

While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Cowbridge. This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.
