Trevenna road works

Wales & West Utilities is starting work to upgrade the gas pipes in the Trevenna Cross area of St Columb.

The first phase of the £800,000 investment project is due to start on 8 May and, barring any engineering difficulties, it will finish at the end of August. The work is essential to keep the gas flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses.

Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Cornwall Council to plan the work and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place throughout. Motorists are advised to allow additional travel time.

Initial traffic management includes the following between 8 – 26 May:

  • Road closure on Road from Five Lanes to Trevenna Cross, closed from outside ‘Nancolleth’ to the junction with Road from Lanvean to Trevenna Cross
  • Road closure on Road from Lanvean to Trevenna Cross, closed from the track at Higher Parsonage to the junction with Road from Five Lanes Road to Trevenna Cross
  • Road closure on Road from Trevenna Cross to Bolingey Road, closed from the junction with Road from Five Lanes to Trevenna Cross to adjacent to ‘Loweneth’
  • Road closure on Road from Trevenna Cross to Higher Tolcarne, closed from the junction with Road from Five Lanes to Trevenna Cross to outside 'The Lodge' between 8 – 26 May
  • A rolling road closure will also be in place on Road from Trevenna Cross to Higher Tolcarne and Trembleath Road, from Trevenna Cross to the junction of Access to Lanhern between 22 May – 23 June

Wales & West Utilities Abby Smith is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said:

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
