Work to upgrade part of the gas network in the Sandy Park Road area of Brislington will begin next month.

Wales & West Utilities will start the £350,000 investment work on 27 August and, barring any engineering difficulties, it will finish in May next year. The work, which starts in Winchester Avenue, is essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come.

In preparation for the project, members of the local community are invited to a drop-in session where they’ll be able to view plans and direct any questions to members of the project team. It will take place between 12.30pm – 6.30pm on Tuesday 30 July at Church Hall at St Cuthbert's Church, Sandy Park Road, Brislington, BS4 3PG.

Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Bristol City Council, and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place as the works progress. This includes:

  • A phased road closure on Sandy Park Road (16 September – end January 2025)
  • A road closure on Harrow Road (13 January – mid March 2025)
  • A road closure on Sandringham Road (3 March – mid April 2025)
  • A road closure on Upper Sandhurst Road (31 March - end May 2025)

Diversion routes will be clearly signposted, and motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel.

Wales & West Utilities Simon Lee is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said:

We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.

While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Brislington. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.
