37 year old Jason Gale from Tiverton in Devon is Wales & West Utilities Operational Manager for Exeter. He leads teams who work to maintain the gas network, repairing gas leaks and laying new supply pipes to heat homes and power businesses.
He started his career in the building trade, but moved to the gas industry in search of job security. After 15 years working ‘on the tools’ as a gas engineer, he moved into a management role and hasn’t looked back.
He said:
Wales & West Utilities is a great place to work if you’re keen to learn and work hard – there are plenty of opportunities. 15 years ago I’d never have thought I’d be in the role I’m in now, leading teams across Exeter that are working together to keep the gas flowing and make sure local people are kept safe. Through the development programmes offered by the company I’ve broadened my capability and experience and these have given me all the skills, confidence and innovative thinking I need to play my part. To someone who wants to build a career in the gas industry I’d urge them to approach it with energy and passion, listen and learn from experienced colleagues and take every opportunity you’re offered
