The New Year will see Wales & West Utilities start a programme of work which will make sure homes and businesses in Castle Cary continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas now and in the future.
The £55,000 investment scheme will involve replacing almost 150 metres of old metal gas pipes with new plastic ones on Woodcock Street and will start on 3 January 2017. It is anticipated it will take around 7 weeks to complete.
Ahead of the work, Wales & West Utilities colleagues will be vising businesses to ensure that all individual needs are understood and can be catered for to make sure that it is business as usual for the duration of the scheme.
In planning the work, and to make sure there is the minimum disruption to the local community and road users, Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Somerset County Council and it has been agreed that a road closure will be in place on Woodcock Street. A diversion route will be clearly signposted. Whilst the work is ongoing the one-way system on Lower Woodcock Street will be temporarily suspended. Access for pedestrians will be maintained at all times, wherever possible.
Wales & West Utilities Operations Officer, Rob Edgerton who will be overseeing the work said:
“We know that working in a town centre is not ideal, but our work is essential to support the area well into the future. Our team will be working hard to keep disruption to a minimum and to make sure we finish the work safely and as quickly as possible.
“Replacing old metal gas pipes is a complex job and depending on what we find when we start work, our plans may need to change. We would like to thank local people in advance for their understanding while we do this essential work.”
