Wales & West Utilities is continuing its £280,000 gas pipe investment work in the Lansdowne Road area of Cardiff which will make sure that local homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply to the area for years to come.
The work, which includes upgrading old metal gas pipes on Brunswick Street, Grosvenor Street and Lansdowne Road, will take 11 weeks to finish.
This follows earlier work on Lansdowne Road in 2016 to make sure the gas keeps flowing and the gas network is fit for the future.
Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with the City of Cardiff Councilin planning this element of the work, and to make sure there is the minimum disruption to local road users, it has been split into phases.
- Phase 1 will involve laying 160 metres of new gas pipe on Brunswick Street from the junction with York Street to the junction with Grosvenor Street. This work, which started this week, should be completed by 27 January. So road users, pedestrians and our colleagues are kept safe during the work there will be restricted parking on Brunswick Street.
- Phase 2 will involve laying 100 metres of new gas pipe on Grosvenor Street from the junction with Lansdowne Road to the junction of Brunswick Street. This work will start on 30 January and should take approximately three weeks to complete. So road users, pedestrians and our colleagues are kept safe whilst the work is ongoing a road closure on Grosvenor Street will be in place between junction of Lansdowne Road to the junction of Brunswick Street a diversion route will be clearly signposted.
Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller for Wales, Francis Kirk, is managing the work and said:
“We know that working on roads like these is not ideal, but it really is essential to keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll be working hard to make sure that the work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible whilst also keeping disruption to a minimum.
“We’re very aware of the effect that our work can have on communities and commuters and we’re working closely with City of Cardiff Council to get this essential work done while causing the least inconvenience.”
