health and safety award

I’m always very proud to say I work for Wales & West Utilities, and an award win in Birmingham last week really demonstrates why.

One of our business priorities is to always demand safety. We’ve not had a loss of time injury since November 2013 and last week we won the prestigious RoSPA Gold Award for the second consecutive year.

To win a gold award for occupational health and safety, we have had to demonstrate an excellent health & safety culture within our company, and show how rigorous our approach is to keeping our workforce safe and healthy. In winning the award, we’ve also had to show that we have excellent levels of compliance and control measures in place, particularly in relation to the main risks associated with our sector.

For a gas distribution network to win a RoSPA Gold award, and to win it for a second time is a significant achievement and underlines how committed we are to continually raising the bar on safety and looking for ways to improve standards for our customers and colleagues.

Our stakeholders, customers and colleagues also benefit from our focus on this critical area. A RoSPA Award gives them independent reassurance that we place the same importance on health and safety as they do.

The RoSPA award is a great way of showcasing the efforts of our colleagues, their hard work and commitment.

So I would like to pay tribute to our colleagues, for their unswerving dedication to health and safety, from our training teams, to our teams on our network, to our occupational health teams, this award is a product of their hard work. But true to our priorities, we’re not complacent, and we will work hard on making sure that safety is always at the heart of everything we do.
