What we offer

Working for us

At Wales & West Utilities everyone in our team is crucial to moving our business forward. Central to this are our values that encompass both our business strategy and the people who work within our organisation.

We're proud to offer all the benefits that you would expect from a large and successful company, including a Defined Contribution pension scheme benefits, 25 days holiday a year (plus all public bank holidays) and Choices - a flexible benefits scheme which offers easy access to a range of specially negotiated products and services for colleagues to choose from, should they wish to do so.

We invest £2m a week in pipe - but we also invest in people too. We're formally recognised by Investors in People for demonstrating our commitment to high performance through good people management and development.

Our development programmes

At Wales & West Utilities we have a range of development programmes for colleagues of different skills, background and experience. As a member of our team, your bespoke development plan will support you in performing to the best of your ability. You can find out more about some of these programmes here.

  • Pathways Coaching

Pathways is aimed at helping colleagues to challenge their thinking, identify their own solutions to problems and develop and enhance their skills and behaviours ultimately creating their own progression pathway for their future.

The programme is not aimed at improving poor performers but supporting some of our top talent.

Coaching is different from mentoring.  It does not require the coach to have more experience than the coachee in his or her discipline, or necessarily to know a lot about the coachee’s department. Instead, the coach helps someone achieve their highest personal potential.

  • Management and Leadership

We are developing our managers and leaders of the future - both operationally and in office based support roles.

Our Operational Manager Traineeship helps colleagues develop the skills they need to manage and lead operational teams delivering for our customers, helping to make sure they have a safe and reliable supply of gas, while our Leadership Programme helps senior colleagues develop their leadership style and abilities.

  • Apprenticeship and Graduate Scheme

We have a coveted operational apprenticeship scheme that recruits aspiring gas engineers, while our graduate scheme gives colleagues all the skills they need to become Chartered Engineers.
