What to Expect When Working at Wales & West Utilities
At Wales & West Utilities everyone in our team is crucial to moving our business forward. Central to this are our values that encompass both our business strategy and the people who work within our organisation.
We're proud to offer all the benefits that you would expect from a large and successful company, including pension benefits, extra holiday time and more. However, at Wales & West Utilities our benefits are linked to our values, so here’s a look at what some of them are:
- We take pride - training and development are central to what we do. Making sure that our people have the required skills to be competent in their chosen field is what we do as standard. On top of that, we support colleagues through additional learning or degree programmes that help them do what they do.
- We work as a team - helping our employees at times of hardship is important to us. So we provide an Employee Assistance Programme which offers confidential advice to all our employees about financial management, bereavements, family, relationships and much more.
- We bring energy – our occupational health department is always on hand to help keep our employees happy and healthy.
Here’s what some of our colleagues say:
Gary from Bridgwater is a senior network technician who joined Wales & West Utilities in 2007. He says: “I joined the Wales & West Utilities apprenticeship scheme as it was relevant to what I wanted to do – it gave me a good start at a big company. “One of the best things is working with a mixed group of people, it’s a good balance – and that’s something we have in the workplace too. I really enjoy working at Wales & West Utilities, and the apprenticeship has given me a trade for life.”
Linda from Haverfordwest is a craftsperson who joined Wales & West Utilities in 2009. She says: “I was looking at options to develop my career in engineering and I applied for an apprenticeship with Wales & West Utilities as I felt it would be the best fit for me and my interests. “The training was great – a good mixture of time spent in the classroom, getting our hands dirty and meeting customers, putting into practice what we had learned. I trained with a group of 10 others, and we all got on well. The apprenticeship scheme prepares you for your future job – and you’re earning while you’re doing it. I can’t fault it!”
Sian from Cardiff is an HR Assistant who joined Wales & West Utilities in 2012. She says: “I joined Wales & West Utilities after finishing University as I had heard that it was a great place to work, and that I would be given the opportunity to develop. I joined as an admin assistant and within a short period of time I moved into the HR team. I really enjoy what I do and the people I work with from all areas of the business – although it’s a big company you feel as if you really make a difference.”
