Ownership & Management of Wales & West Utilities
We used to be part of the National Grid Transco, and launched as Wales & West Utilities on 1 June 2005. Valued at £1.2 billion, we are a regulated gas distribution business with around 35,000 kilometres of gas pipes covering Wales and the south west of England. .
We're proud to cover 1/6th of the UK, taking care of 2.5 million gas supply points in homes and businesses, covering a catchment area with a population of 7.5 million people. Our head office is nestled in Newport, South Wales and throughout our extensive network from the mountains of North Wales to the cliff tops of Cornwall, we employ more than 1,300 colleagues.
The Wales & West Utilities Executive team manage and oversee the day-to-day running of the business, whilst shaping and guiding our business strategy. They are guardians of the company’s regulatory responsibilities and accountable for overall company performance. We're part of a global business family: owned by the Cheng Kong Infrastructure (CKI) Group. CKI are based in Hong Kong and have business operations in 52 countries, employing more than 280,000 people worldwide. CKI invested in Wales & West Utilities in 2012, complementing its business portfolio which includes investments in energy, water, waste management and infrastructure operations throughout Hong Kong, Mainland China, the UK, the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
